Andy likes to set up straw men and knock them down. I don't know why
he participates in our organization if he disagrees with most of its
policies. IF he doesn't, it sure seems that he does.
Andy postulattes that the va. does not use the medical model, but as
was said, they're always referring to the number of "beds" at their
facilities instead of the number of places for training.
To read more on the medical model, maybe he should read some of the
writings of C. Edward Vaughan.
Lots of times, we say what we mean, or more about our philosophy by
our choice of words. I know, it's just semantic games, but I would
believe by such usage as the term beds to refer to the number of
places available at a va. rehab facility that they still put a lot of
stock in the medical model.
Andy just wants to argue, and to accomplish that, he sets up straw men
and knocks them down.
He could ask first, as Jim says, but to do that wouldn't give him the
opportunity to stir something up.
I would suggest that andy:
1. Get a life;
2. Go join the acb since his philosophy seems to lean more in that
direction.
Just my $0.02 worth.
