You went all the way back to 1998 to dig that up? Amazing, if not too
surprising. In any case, I don't recall the exchange. However, the
reference to the retirement home probably annoyed me, so I replied with an
insult of my own.

That doesn't contradict what I said. I don't believe I have ever knowingly
made fun of the English usage of anyone I knew not to be a native English
speaker - unless he made the imprudent mistake of questioning my English
usage or comprehension.
