Hi Mike! On 08.02.95 16:05 you wrote to Andrew Clegg: MB> Andrew Clegg wrote in a message to Kerry Sanders: AC>> C, C++, and Objective C. Objective C is a programming language (or better a C-add-on) by some guy named B.J.Cox. Most it does is simply adding OO-features to ANSI-C without changing anything else (like C++) or bombing you with language features (like C++). OK, people might state that many of the new C++ features are quite necessary, however it still depends on what you like most. And since Next have chosen Objective C as implementation language and therefore added all they needed to GNU-C compilers there is indeed some kind of standard you can rely on. Anyway, what I just wanted to say from the beginning is, C++ is no real standard language either. Look at all the different implementations even under OS/2. Since an ANSI standard is not definitely out there's still no guaranty for code portability under C++ - even if you try to use only the basic features. After all it'll be the safest way either to use ANSI C or just use what you like most :-) Martin ________/|/| "Herbert" (__) \|\| ---* Origin: Offline BBS Wedel - Entropy requires no maintenance (2:240/5022.41) SEEN-BY: 12/2442 620/243 624/50 632/348 640/820 690/660 711/409 410 413 430 SEEN-BY: 711/807 808 809 934 942 949 955 712/515 713/888 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 240/5022 5002 5500 396/1 3615/50 229/2 12/2442 711/409 808 809 934 |
