I've seen it several times.  Some friends passed around a cracked copy of
XPHome and XPPro for all of their computers.   XPSP1 won't install on those
machines.  I didn't know they were running cracked/hacked XP copies, and
they called me in to troubleshoot why they could not install the SP.  After
several attempts, I asked them if they had the original install disks for
each machine.  They produced the one home burned copies of XPH and XPP,
with the install key written on the top of the disk.  I told them to go by
new copies for each machine, install those, then SP1 would work fine, and
then I left.
