 Yep. That was my orgional (sic) surmise way back after CUFOS published
the first report ( Randle & Schmitt's UFO Crash At Roswell.)
 In fact, in the 1994 book, the authors got a bunch of testimony from
the officers who arrived at the impact site, expecting to find an
experimental aircraft of soviet or nazi manufacture ( I bet there were
a few around.) went into a state of shock at what they saw that
morning. There had been some speculation from the radar returns it
might be ET in manufacture, but few took it serious, even for a few
hours or days after the main recovery.
  Its also been reported that the crew of Pappy Henderson's plane
couldn't stop washing their hands after the secret flight, just becuase
some of the stuff was so ALIEN to their experience. They found it
deeply disturbing.
  As apparently the rest of the military-intelligence community did.
