DB> KK> DM> NOTE: The Aryan "occult" had many (DARK) crossover points
nto
DB> KK> DM> the Nazi underworld .....
DB> KK> That would be very interesting to trace...
DB>I think it begins with Tacitus on Germany; the cultural attributes
DB>of the Prussian warrior class go back that far at least. The cult
DB>part however, is a good deal more obscure. Neitzsche's Genealogy
DB>of Morals and the Birth of Tragedy suggest the origin of much of
DB>the Nazi ideology. However, the Nazi's lack of scholarship was so
DB>bad that they did not understand much of what he said, and a like
DB>lack in their enemies is evidenced by the fact that they did not
DB>catch the Nazis at it.
Apparently the 'Aryans' go all the way back to peoples living
on the Russian steppe 10,000 years ago, and who invaded Europe in
successive waves 4 - 7,000 years ago. We're just starting to learn
about the earliest parts.
DB>My own take is that you are either a victim or a victor, and the
DB>best choice is the latter. The Nazis picked up on that, but did
DB>not see his mandate for a ruler to be in complete control of him-
DB>self before trying to control others. Neitzsche recognized that
DB>leaders must have a vision, but the Nazis failed to see how much
DB>effort and study went into creating that vision.
Details, details!
DB>In his Genealogy of Morals: "I have no patience with mummers who
DB>try to mimic life, with worn-out, used-up people who swathe them-
DB>selves in wisdom so as to appear 'objective', with histrionic ag-
DB>itators, who wear magic hoods on their straw heads, with ambitious
DB>artists who try to pass for ascetics and priests yet are, at bot-
DB>tom, only tragic buffoons. And I am equally out of patience with
DB>those newest spectulators in idealism called Anti-Semites, who
DB>parade as Christian-Aryan worthies and endeavor to stir up all
DB>the asinine elements of the nation by that cheapest of propaganda
DB>tricks, a moral atitude."
Boy howdy. That makes him a lot more 3-dimensional. I think the
only book of his that I read cover to cover was _Zarathustra_,
at about age 16; the thing that came thru most clearly was that
while trying to demolish Christ, he was trying to create a new
Christ. I think also I got a whiff of the whole will-to-power
bit and kind of wrote him off as a proto-Nazi.
DB>Now, why among all of the anti-Nazi writings of all of the liberal
DB>champions of human rights, was was this missed? So to discuss the
DB>Aryan sense of right and wrong is not the same as accepting a Nazi
DB>view. One take off point might be in his Birth of Tragedy...
The Nazis tried to co-opt Spengler too, imagining themselves
as his spiritual descendents. But Spengler didn't buy them
any more that N. did.
DB>Compare Oedipus & Job. The latter suffers because that's the will
DB>of God. Oedipus suffers because he has transgressed his *own*
DB>sense of right and wrong. As king and ruler of his own destiny,
DB>Oedipus laid down the law, could change any law handed down to him
DB>if he found it unreasonable, and when he finds himself disobeying
DB>his own law, that fact that he did so unknowingly does not deter
DB>him from suffering the consequences.
DB>That is the fundamental difference between the Semetic and Aryan
DB>mythology and morality. Because the former sees himself as doing
DB>the will of God, any action is, as Hume said, justifiable in the
DB>furtherance of the cause. As we see, this includes atrocity. The
DB>Ayran does right because, as Aristotle said, only a fool would do
DB>otherwise.
It's not hard to see something there of the difference between the
Catholic and Protestant underlying worldviews. But it's good to
recall that plenty of armies have believed 'Gott mit Uns.' Methinks
the Aryan idea can be deconstructed to mean, only a fool would
disagree that I am right.
