MS>DIANE LEVESQUE TYPED:
MS>Face it; these posts aren't as much information for DX'ers but
nfomercials
MS>for Swede megabroadcasters to a potential future audience including
'ers.
MS>MIKE SPRAGUE SAYS:
MS>I can't imagine why any organization would believe they have a very large
MS>or influential audience in this shortwave listener's echo. I wish they
Well, the idea goes back a ways when SCDX actually contained information
that used to be of shortwave interest. When SCDX changed its format to
what's now not only completely off-topic but actually belongs in a
different forum that has since been established for that topic, I did
leave email to George Wood personally to that effect, and he took
umbrange citing that he was a satellite hobbyist himself; incommunicado
ever since. Sorry, but that still doesn't make it on topic...took that
up with Fred, too, and as a result I landed in the Fido doghouse.
However, the postings have been automated ever since and there appears
to be neither hide nor hair of Fred in immediate evidence.
Hmmmmm....you see, if I was this forum's moderator I would have had
George Wood bounced offa here a long dang time ago. Nothing personal,
he IS a nice guy in SW from 'way back--but the boy is WAY THE
BLUE BLAZES off-topic and is getting away with blatant in-your-face
rule-murder, over and above the fact that people who pick up this forum
for SW information and discussion are not only turned off by this
verbal polution but are actually chased off by it. An astute
broadcaster would have taken the hint from this that it was repelling
its audience in droves, but an automaton in a corporate pocket has no
real mental smarts of its own.
MS>would have a little mercy on me. When the larger, faster computer is
eing
MS>used by my JoAnn or one of her children, I often pick up bulletin board
MS>messages using an old Mac and a 1200 bps modem. At that speed, things
ike
MS>Radio Sweden take forever. And I can't help but think that anybody who
MS>reads this echo would, by definition, already be aware of Radio Sweden and
MS>if they wanted to know all of this stuff would listen to it on one of
adio
MS>Sweden's many outlets.
Indeed, indeed. Fido, at the outset of its inception, was always meant
to be "downward compatable" such that even people who still use
Commie64's wouldn't feel isolated. When it comes to SW and radio
amateur affairs, this is particularly important with blind hams and SWLs
who by an large rely entirely on Commie 64s for communications (voice
and braille interface) online and on the air (packet). There's a major
Commodore network, at least in this particular region, for that purpose.
But this again speaks to my charge that George's postings are also
commercial in nature and should be banned on the basis of Fido's ad
rules; his station, in appealing to the portion of its desired
commercial target market (defined by Radio Sweden's corporate
governances) that might be found among the once-loyal SW audience, is
essentially posting commercials for this audience to become part of that
audience. Radio Sweden should be sanctioned by Fido Admin for this 7
ways from Sunday, IMHO.
