| subject: | Winter Biking |
Hi! I was wondering if anyone knows of a company that produces anything
along the line of snow-chains for mountain bikes. I'm really into biking all
year long and I enjoy biking paths in the winter when there is a fair amount
of snow. I've heard of Snow-chains for bikes before but I've never seen any
around where I live (Edmonton, Alberta).

I know people here (Milwaukee, WI.) who ride during the winter, even on
frozen lakes. They take an old tire and screw sheet metal screws
through from the inside to create "studs" then inflate to low pressure.
(35psi). The sheet metal screws are usually around #10, and you can
vary the length, depending on how much you want them to dig. Keep in
mind that they need to be able to clear the frame and brakes. Probable
safer than trying to get a chain to stay in one place on a MTB tire and
not make the ride unstable.

I don't know about that, Ray. Bike trailers for kids are fairly common
around here. And I've even seen some hookups similiar to what Bill is
describing.
