Good morning, Matt.

MM> Have you EVER booted that machine with a CD? I _think_ an "ATAPI"
MM> compliant CD is required for the boot to work.

Nope! This machine is a 1995 model and I do not think that the
        CD-ROM would be ATAPI.

MM> Yes, the CD _should_ boot from either channel when there is no HD.

I so far, have tried all combinations of connections, HDD by
itself or CD by itself or whatever. I went from IDE 1 to 2,
changed that 40 wire ribbon cable but it still does not go
beyond the BIOS after Alt to get to it. I change things in BIOS
then let it rip but it will never see a device. None is all over
the screen. Something major like a CPU gone or the MoBo even.
This system had been ON since new, 24/7. The case fan was seized
and the CPU fan is so noisy !!! I might just keep the RAM sticks
and the CD device and garbage the rest. The monitor is nice too.

        Thanks for the moral support.
