Not only the DUN components, but I would also advise him to do the same
with his modem - especially if it's a software modem. With so many
different software modems out there (everyone has their own proprietary
model) who knows what conflicts arise.
Anyway, more troubles are reported (similar to your friend's) because of
lame software modems and poor drivers than anything else.
