subject: Win XP DUN Problem

I am looking at a friend's PC that has Win XP Home edition installed. He
is having a problem with the dial-up networking. Basically, it tends to
"hang" for a while when trying to enter data (takes up to 5 minutes for the
next panel to come up), and when you attempt to connect, it will dial the
ISP, but never negiciates a PPP link. It will sit, with the modem connected,
until the other side eventually times-out (could be an hour or more).

I have run a virus scan (using the latest DATs, which found nothing), and
have also run an Ad-Aware scan (which found a lot of bug-a-boos). I also
tried a System Restore back to a date where he said it was working, and it
still does not work.

I was thinking of uninstalling and re-installing the Dial-Up Networking.
Does that sound like a good idea?

Mike
