I  know    that somewhere buried in all the stuff on my bbs is the diagram 
for the adapter, ... and I will forward it when it shows up...
BUT,
finding the 15 pin male plug can be rather difficult,
and you it is not a straight connection,
there are optoisolaters transisters also in the circuit
so,
if you cannot get the adapter which is a stock adapter for most soundcards
I wonder if you will be able to find the parts to assemble the cable.
here you can buy the complete adapter for about $15.00 while buying the 
necessary parts at retail [assuming you can find them] came to about $30.00
and if the homebrew cable doesn't work... how  will you know where the 
trouble lies? Just a few thoughts... as there are several  gigabites of midi 
related materials to sort through to find the text file  diagram [it may take 
a week]
