How so? There's not a huge difference in waste heat between his home
generator and FPG's own gas-fired plants.

In fact, in applications where a significant amount of heat as well as
electricity is required, such as public swimming pool complexes, hospitals
etc, co-generation is often cheaper than using gas and electricity
directly. Co-generation involves having a generator running on natural gas,
with the waste heat from the exhaust and cooling system recovered and used.
The efficiency gain comes from eliminating transmission losses and
recovering the heat that would normally go up a power station's cooling
towers.
