I think a lot of people misapprehend the Borg process.
Assimilation is not "being taken over by an alien intelligence",
your judgement and decision making is added to the collective. You
have input, it just is biased by the collective intelligence.
Decisions are made with your input included, but you will likely be
suborned by the decisions of those who have gone before and those
who have been Borg for a greater amount of time. Kinda like assuming
a position in a Corporate Megastructure. =}
