subject: Hello - I Got A NEW Bird

Hi, and welcome to Parrots. I'm the moderator.
>I just got my first Parrot. Its a red bellied parrot. I Know its not
>the big huge sucker like an amazon but she seemslike she will be a
>handfull.
ANY parrot can be a handful, that's not at all related to size!
>And I try to make up for with them all. That usually means spoiling
>them all including the new bird. Im new to this thing of birds And I
>want to make sure I dont make too many mistakes (other than spelling
>and Grammer) and since With the electronic age i figured I should get
>some interesting answers from real people that have had birds. Not pet
>stores.
Good move--pet stores can often give misleading advice. The regulars out
here have the equivalent of several decades of bird experience, and
we're glad to share it. Did you have specific questions? If so, just
ask--somebody will jump in and answer, I'm sure!
>We found a avronic vet or bird vet and he checked her out. And
>everything is okay. I call it she since I dont have a clue on what it
>is. (Im kind of partial to females,What can I say) Im not sure how many
>and or how you give it a bath. Last time I stuck a large tupperware
>dish out. She had a ball.
I'm glad you took the bird to a vet for a checkup--that's a good first
step in bird ownership. As for baths, some birds bathe daily, some don't
like water at all. If your bird bathed on her own in a dish, this is
good! Mine like to bathe in the sink, in their water dishes, or
sometimes even in the shower on my arm (water is aimed so it hits a
shoulder first, creating a soft mist that won't knock the bird over).
If she likes water, one bath a day isn't too much. Just be sure that she
is kept warm and out of drafts until her feathers dry off, so she
doesn't get chilled. That could make her sick.
If you have questions, feel free to ask them! That's why we're here!
Welcome aboard!
