GG> Roger that. There was a guy in Dallas a few years ago engaged police in
GG> high speed chase, which ended in front of his house when he started
GG> shooting a shotgun at the cops. After 115 shots (of which 9 were hits,
GG> of those, 6 upper body hits) the fight ended. The perpetrator was on TV
GG> the next night giving an interview.
GG> If you can be shot six times in the chest cavity and be on TV the next
GG> night, the 9mm must be a pretty sorry round. That and the police need
GG> some marksmanship training.
Across the board, 80% of people shot survive - without regard to the round
used. Many officers of my acquaintance would prefer a .40 or a 10mm to the
9 - but a properly placed 9 will do the job, whereas a poorly placed .45
will just piss the perp off.
And upper body hits do not automatically become chest cavity hits.
Depending on the loading, any round can walk around a rin and exit the back,
striking neither major organ nor major vessel. Chest cavity is a relatively
small area, relatively well defended. Upper body is something else again.
The ideal round would be a launched grenade - but it makes a terrible mess
on the walls.
