RM> Not so much profitable as stimulating to the economy. RM> It gets people working and the country moving even if it's at RM> a loss. I understand the US deficit last year was $300 Billion. RM> That's ovet $1000 for every man, woman and child in the country RM> or I'd Guess about $3500 for every working person. Take the RM> number of new jobs created and the cost of the war and I doubt RM> invading Afghanistan made them much profit. GP~Afghanistan was coming for some time (the big munitions' companies have ~had lots of stuff stockpiled, and not enough in international trade to ~keep their sales/profits as high as they'd like, so a war was inevitable ~somewhere -- I thought for sure that China was going to be the target -- ~how was I to know that the USA's biggest terrorist organization(Al ~Qaida)'s leader was going to blow the whistle on who was really ~employing him, thus requiring his neutralization? :P Do I detect a conspiracy 'fan' here? B) GP~Active war makes these munitions industries in excess of 100 billion a ~week! (And the White House KNOWS (after JFK and the complete lack of ~investigation/accountability/reckoning) that to attempt to avoid war ~when the $$ boys demand it, has downright fatal(and ~unpreventable) consequences! :( Now wait.. a few corporate giants getting rich doesn't do the USA any good at all, not when the cost burden is taken on entirely by the taxpayers. This isn't like selling arms outside of the country at a profit. This is the military spending money buying arms and then spending money on soldiers and equipment to 'distribute' those arms and then spending money to bribe and bebuild the areas that you've just turned into a smoking pit afterwards. I'll grant you that the arms makers would love to throw a war and would make lots of money but I don't think there's enough money in it to bribe enough people to get it through senate past all the Rest of the states that Don't have huge arms manufacturers.. --- * SLMR 2.1a * If at first you don't succeed, try DEL*.* and forget it! * PDQWK 2.52 #17 --- GTMail 1.26* Origin: Kentucky's Capitol City Online * 502/875-8938 (1:2320/105.0) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 2320/105 261/38 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
