Thanks for all of this. For sure, protective goggles, gloves, and
a tea-towel are all good equipment.
Why the lamp bulbs? I've been looking at bromeliads (sp?) and
similar small plants, and thinking that an array of clear glass
light bulbs cradling a variety of small plants and cuttings might
make a great hanging ornament.
Imagine, say, twelve clear glass lightbulbs, each with a small
bed of moist gravel or sand, each holding a small succulent,
arranged somewhat like a mobile, but not as free-swinging and
crash-into-each-other-and-shatter like a mobil.
Or imagine the light bulb being a miniature reservoir of water
(moisture) sitting in a depression in the soil of a terrarium. A
means of keeping the humidity high without wetting the soil.
Your suggestion for using egg-trays as seedling beds is
excellent, especially for fast-sprouting seeds, where the paper
tray segment can be cut and placed directly into the soil, where
it will hold the seedling and then rot away.
