Thom,
I've been using a Panasonic AG1950 VHS Hi-Fi as the primary recorder
in a reasonably high-end audio system for several years (at least,
until recently, when an audio IC went out and my ability to record
sound became erratic). Running in SP, this Professional machine
produces sound that's clearly superior to the average home "Hi-Fi" VCR.
I'm using cheap, Scotch EG T-120 tape and I don't have problems with
drop-outs.
