| subject: | Dried up Ink Cart. HoHoHo |
Hi, Matt. You're now a 2x HoHoHo winner. MM> My daughter's HP does the same thing almost monthly when she gets a MM> hair to print something. What I've been doing is removing the MM> cartridge and lightly wiping the surface on a quad-folded _damp_ paper MM> towel. The moisture helps soften the dried ink, and the absorbency of MM> the paper towel draws out some ink through those tiny holes. Sometimes MM> I have to repeat 2x or 3x, but so far so good. MM> Wipe with a slight diagonal motion. No point of having a dried piece MM> of crud come loose from one hole then forcing it back into an adjacent MM> one. Similar worked for me after an all-night soak in distilled water. I started with a pretty wet paper towel, ended up with a dry one. The paper towels kept absorbing more ink out of there the more I wiped, so I finally just stopped. I didn't clean the heads anymore by printer self-clean, just put it back in there and it started printing OK. The HP cartridge design seems a bit flawed - - they seem to slowly leak ink out of the bottom where the jets are, over extended periods of time. - - at least the black ink heads do that for me. FWIW, the cartridge at hand isn't a HP brand - - it is from NuKote. - - part new, part recycled. - - - JimH. ... Jim, that cartridge cost you more than the whole printer did.- - Bubba --- MultiMail/MS-DOS v0.32* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/1 379/1 633/267 |
