I, for one, would like to know why you place such a small number there -
we do, after all, have concrete evidence: one in particular (and there are
many bits of evidence) is _fossilized_ dinosaur bones; which in order to
become fossiled must change from bone to stone, which takes literally
_millions_ of years. If you are one who states that God only makes it
_appear_ the earth is much older than it is... then there must be a
reason why God would _deceive_ mankind into thinking the earth is older
than it is - and this would be a contradiction of terms. There is no way
I'm going to believe in a God who lies. The earth is 5 or so billion
years old, give or take several million years. That's what irrefutable
physical evidence tells us, and the Bible does NOT contradict that
evidence. It is some people's interpretation of what the Bible says,
that contradicts actual physical evidence - and that's plain and simple
arrogance.
But I do believe this whole universe was created by the one God - only
I don't believe he _lies_ about the age of the earth, anymore than He
would lie about whether or not it's raining outside. If you see it
raining, then it is raining - and if you see fossilized dinosaur bones,
then the earth is several billion years old.
