I have type 2 (recently diagnosed). My aunt and a second cousin on the
same side of the family both had/have type 1 (my aunt passed on several
years ago at the age of 75 - from lymphatic cancer, not diabetic
complications). I think there may be a genetic predisposition to it, with
other contributing factors (whatever those might be).
