Yep.  There are thousands of them in this country, too.  They're called
'railfans'.  There are several magazines that cater to them ('Trains' among
them).  Some railfans take absolutely *fantastic* pictures of trains and
landscapes.

How?  Except for the Northeast corridor there are d*mn few passenger trains
running - and the one that goes through here seems to be at least half
freight cars moving (I presume) express packages.
