With Blighty at 17.5%, and Canada at 15 or so, I don't feel to bad about
our NY State + City sales tax, just raised to 8.65%.  Highest in the
nation? Maybe.

(National "excise" taxes are rare, though, except for things like
liquor, tobacco and gasoline.)
