| subject: | Rectifier Bulb? HoHoHo |
Hello, Jasen.
JH> So, Roy, Jasen, and Matt, if you want to pay for the postage for
JH> either a 32MB DIMM or a CDROM drive, drop me an email to
JH> jim.holsonback{at}juno.com and let me know which one to plan on
JH> sending. Sorry, Jasen, postage to AUS may be more then the thing
JH> is worth, even for "free".
JB> The DIMM will fit in a regular envelope... postage would probably be a
JB> buck or so, (I don't think it's worth the bother at the moment though,
JB> I've got enough 32M dimms) and all my other (working) systems take 72
JB> pin simms. it's probably cost more in money conversion and other
JB> hassles.
I got plenty of 8M simms, and could send some of those. 4 of them weigh
about 1.7 ozs and postage from here to AUS for 2 ounces is $1.70. You
won one of the other HoHoHo posts also, so I may be able to come up with
2- 16MB simms and postage for that _might_ be under 1 oz and under $1.
I agree not worth currency conversion - - if I pay for postage, maybe
we could agree you give small contribution to your favorite charity.
See other msg and send email if interested.

JH> The circuit breaker bulb reads short in both directions, so may be
JH> good, but I don't trust it anymore, as it let both of the diodes
JH> get burned up. I know I have an in-line fuse holder here, so
JH> think I'll add one of those in the line out from the +12V
JH> terminal.
JB> take it out and hook it up in series with a headlamp and the car
JB> battery. if it doesn't go out after a few seconds it's not working.
JB> (60w dipped beam is about 5A so should trip the breaker pretty
quickly)
OK, but I'll just jumper across it where it sits.
JB> if it's not working you couild try banging it on the table a bit...
Hee. If it doesn't work, that's not what I'll be banging it with. [:-D.
JH> There's an unused screw on the output terminal strip, so I think
JH> I'll try to find something like a 24 Ohm 25W or so resistor to put
JH> in there, as a current limiter (to about 2 AMPs), and if I ever
JH> try to use this thing as a trickle charger again, I'll use that
JH> terminal for the +12V output.
JB> use an 20W lightbulb, (like an indicator lamp) they have a lower
JB> resistance when cold which allows for quicker charging while still
JB> providing a current-limiting function if a fault develops.
The light bulb limiter was also suggested by some others. Seems a bit
fragile and bulky for my intended use.

... "Bother!" said Pooh, as he saw the sparks and smelled the smoke.
