Tseard Hoekstra wrote in a message to Geert Bosch: GB> So, all languages using GCC as code generator GB> (Modula-3, Objective-C, C, C++, Ada95, and those I forgot) should GB> be able to call each other's functions. TH> You are assuming now that everybody is using GCC. You certainly misunderstood the point I wanted to make. The message I was responding to stated that it was impossible to implement OS/2 applications using multiple languages. So I provided an example in which it's possible to create multi-language applications. TH> This is most definitly not the case, certainly not in most TH> commercial environments. So this doesn't work when using TH> other compilers. And I never say it would. I'm just trying to show people that OS/2 is an open platform that doesn't lock people to a single language or compiler. The fact that GCC is a multi-language, multi-platform, multi-target compiler is certainly a pro for this code generator. My goal is just to provide some people in this area with information other than "just use C/C++, it's the only reasonable choice". Claiming that is just like claiming MS Windows is the only reasonable operating environment, 'cause it's most widely used in commercial environments. Please let OS/2 continue to be an open environment, with many tools and languages to choose from. There's not one solution for all needs, and the availability of 'non-C' languages helps in making OS/2 more productive for more people. Greetings, Geert (PS: Did anybody notice the C++ language specifications change nearly as fast as MicroSofts API specs?
