Hi, Terry:
TJ>FV> Here's more data re the satellite tracking program I mentioned
TJ>FV> last time (plus a bit of other related stuff). On a local BBS, the
TJ>FV> latest version is titled SOP9517.ZIP, which means "STS Orbit Plus,
TJ> Any idea where these can be freq'ed from? Have a good one. Take
 TJ> care.
First of all, there's a more recent version called SOP9650, though the
previous versions are excellent as well.
The only places I know of to get these programs are the local BBS
that I first found them on, and (far better) the BBS that's run by the
author of the programs (called RPV Astronomy BBS). If you (or
anyone else out there) have a serious interest in monitoring VHF
comms from satellites (whether astronauts, cosmonauts, amateur
transmissions/uplinks/downlinks) satellite tracking
programs/schedules/news/etc., NASA, space and related photos, files,
programs, etc., it's the *best* source I'm aware of, by far. (BTW,
this is no advertisement or anything, since I'm in no way affiliated
with anyone on the BBS - and, anyway, the BBS is free, as are the programs
of the programmer who runs the BBS [though other programs the BBS carries
are shareware.])
  Anyhow, the BBS's number is (310) 541-7299 [2400-14400 @ 8-N-1],
or try his new WWW Home Page, which recently came on line (but is still
under construction) at http://www.mindspring.com/~dransom.
I've called the BBS, but I haven't yet visited the Web site. On
the BBS, the satellite tracking program I've mentioned is divided
into two files called SOP9650A.ZIP and SOP9650B.ZIP; the other
program is called TLEMOP1Y.ZIP (and, most likely, they're all named
the same on the Web Site). One file you might want to download from the
BBS (which is probably on the Web Site too) is RPV.ZIP; it's a list
of all the zillions of files and programs available for download.
It's a lot easier (and cheaper) to read through it offline at your leisure.
(BTW, the BBS has a power controller, so when you call it, if the
phone rings 3 times and the line still hasn't answered, hang up and
call back in 2 minutes.)
Well, that's it. Happy listening and Merry Christmas!
Cheers, Frank
