There are two ways to get yourself into the market basically
here-underprice the competition or go in and work with the
competition and break away from them and do your own thing.
Unfortunately for most of us, the first gigs start out as
word of mouth...so be constantly pushing yourself and what
you do, it's amazing how a good name carries (we've been heard
of in the other end of the country already!). The best
advice I'd suggest is get involved with a good production houses
in town-it'll bring in freelance work. Approach ad agencies
and show them what you can do (with work you did with the
other production houses). A lot of companies come to agencies
here to get corporates done. You may have to do a couple for
free (or for really cheap) which can show what you can do, but
if you do it well, it'll pay off in the end.
Also make sure you have a good staff. People do look at
references and creditials. You're dealing with the future
of the corporation you produce the video for and they are
usually spending quite a bit of money to get a corporate
video produced, so make sure your people go the extra
mile and inspire confidence in your client.
BTW, what are you running for a computer? We just got an
SGI at the studio and I'm in love with it!
