I've heard that rumor.  On the other hand, the good folks at THE RUE
MORGUE (one of the premier mystery bookstores in the world) haven't
heard anything "official" on the subject.
I must admit that I hope not.  On the other hand, he's written a lot of
books and had a full life before he ever started writing.  If he wants
to retire, he sure has earned it.
