Just tried smapi-2.4-rc5.tar.gz on my latest 64-bit build with success.
Check your huskymak.cfg and make sure OPTCFLAGS has -fPIC in it. That
might be the problem.

I only got these warnings;
api_sdm.c: In function 'SdmOpenMsg':
api_sdm.c:406: warning: left shift count >= width of type
api_sdm.c: In function '_SdmRescanArea':
api_sdm.c:1113: warning: left shift count >= width of type
api_sdm.c: In function 'Get_Binary_Date':
api_sdm.c:1319: warning: dereferencing type-punned pointer will break
strict-aliasing rules

Also just out of curiousity could you post this;

root{at}sixtyfour ~ $ gcc -v
Using built-in specs.
Target: x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
Configured with: ../gcc-4.2.1/configure --prefix=/usr --libexecdir=/usr/lib
--enable-shared --enable-threads=posix --enable-__cxa_atexit --enable-c99
--enable-long-long --enable-clocale=gnu --enable-languages=c,c++
--disable-multilib --disable-libstdcxx-pch --disable-nls
x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
Thread model: posix
gcc version 4.2.1

Life is good,
Maurice
