There can be too much money at stake. In that sense, once established, getting rid of GM production also becomes very difficult. That said, there are in fact increasing numbers of American farmers breaking away from GM foods. So much so it has become a major concern to the GM producers. Again, it is all about money. The farmers breaking away from GM are doing so because they fear that worldwide dislike of GM foods will make exporting ever more difficult.
