I am also interested in working with parallel ports. I would like to use the 
port to trip an alarm....or several if possible.
 
I am currently using 2 serial ports for data collection. Is it possible to 
address each of the 8 data lines of the parallel port individually and use 
the +5 volts to activate a solid state relay of some kind.
 
This is a new area for me and any direction would be appreciated.
