BG> Look what they did to that poor bastard Greg Whats'isname (from
BG> Optus), he basically just quit the echo in disgust, which was a pity,
BG> as he had introduced some well-balanced arguments both for and
BG> against Optus.

RS> Yeah, one of the more unspeakable episodes in echomail I have seen
RS> for a while.

BG> I take it he hasn't come back then. What a shame. I hope the
BG> bastards responsible feel really proud of themselves.

AM> What was the story there?

Obscene. The echo was riddled with Telecomers who proceeded to attack
Greg at every opportunity they could see, even to the extent of
demanding he stopped propagandising for Optus when he was in fact only
responding to direct questions. Needless to say furiously propagandising
the Telecom line in the most outrageously one eyed and bigoted way that
only a rabid union like that can manage. Quite a bit of it outrageous
lies, let alone being economical with the truth.

Some of them went so far that some of the more sane Telecomers couldnt
even stomach the worst of the abuse and even publicly apologised for
their behaviour. BOG appeared to actually get struck off forever.

Greg was basically there in his own time, appeared to be pretty short of
time, and was a quite senior Optus person as well. He was the one
generally used as the spokesman on the media in Sydney when Optus first
started. Was a great source of fine detail on what Optus was up to like
when they would start in a particular city etc.

The moderator, another Telecomer, basically did attempt to try to stop
the worst of the attacks, but Greg appeared to get sick of it anyway.
Damned shame, its rare to see such senior people in the know in an
specialised echo.
