subject: [OS2HW] Thinkpad HD question

I am looking to replace a HD in a thinkpad.

For desktop machines, buying a new IDE HD is relatively painless.

For some reason, I am under the impression that this is not so painless
for laptop computers.

Are there OEM thirdparty places to get replacement HD for thinkpads, and
how will I know which ones will work and which ones wont?

If notebook HD drives are just as interchangeable as desktop IDE drives,
that would be nice to know.

I'm sure every notebook maker does not make their own HD. This suggests
that many of not all are reasonably interchangeable.

Feedback is encouraged and appreciated.

Thanks,
-Mark Vollmer
