Hello Paul! On 02 Apr 94, you said to Geoff Armstrong: PE> Hello Geoff! PE> So you acquired a new modem did you? You're not connecting with any PE> error correction. I suspect that is due to a faulty setup your end. PE> Also you are only connecting at 9600, which I suspect (also suspecting PE> you have a 14400 bps modem) is because you haven't set your baud rate PE> to 19200 and run a locked com port. BFN. Yes, and no. Yes, I have my new modem. No, it's only 9600, not 14400. Yes, I suspect a faulty setup at my end. No, I don't run it locked at 19200. It is a TEL596 modem, of the variety Telecom gives to staff as no-one would buy one on the open market. Made on spec for Telecom by Execom (and we all know what absolute shit Execom make). It has data compression (I am assuming MNP5 is the data compression you refer to) but when I turn it on and lock my port to 19200, all I get is crap. No, I don't mean all I get are messages from Rod Speed ;-) (Hello Rod! Just joining in the kicking fest ) So, I think 9600 is all I'm going to get out of it. And, (get this!) it won't allow "-"'s in a dial string. So, numbers entered like 02-1234567 dial 02, nothing more! To say this was a problem is an understatement! I had to take my nodelist, and change every telephone number in it from CC-A-NNNNNNN to CC-ANNNNNNN, then recompile it. Total pisser and pain in the arse. Sea Ewes are round!
