JP>> The Swarm had their first bubble bath last
 JP>> night...or rather, *I* had a bubble bath which
 JP>> they enjoyed.
BS> This I have to hear more about...your cats
 BS> enjoyed a bath?
Not exactly, they didn't get a bath, in fact the next
day when I filled the tub Charlie snuck around behind
me; managed to get around the back end of the tub (a
mere 1.5 inches of space) and ended up on the wall
side of the tub where he then fell into the tub full
of hot water and bubbles. He didn't like that ONE
LITTLE BIT. But they do enjoy playing with water and
don't mind getting themselves sopping wet. They like
water on their own terms.
Saw their vet yesterday and inquired about the addition
of bubblebath bubbles to their diet...she said she's not
worried as long as it isn't a steady diet item.
And I asked about chocolate. She said their bodies
convert it into a toxic chemical which can send them into
seizures. She's treated dogs more often for chocolate
poisoning (sited a case where a Yorkie ate a bowl of
Hershey's Kisses) than cats, but it's still a problem.
No more chocolate-flavor Boost for Jenny, altho she said
the small amount Jenny ingests from licking my straw
wasn't going to hurt her. Still, it's good to know.
BS> How did you accomplish this? My Buttons hates
BS> baths, though she endures one without too much
 BS> trouble.
I've found that putting the water ON the cat instead
of putting the cat IN the water, they are much less
traumatized. I put a tub in the tub and fill it with
water then scoop the water over the cat. I gave up
trying to immerse a cat in water, it seems to panic
the cat. The only parts of a cat I immerse now is the
tail, maybe a paw, one at a time. Letting them stand
on their own feet in a relatively dry tub agrees with
mine. And if they're not panicked, I can "suggest"
that they stay in the tub with one hand while I soap
and rinse with the other. With the advent of PROGRAM
and ADVANTAGE or TOP SPOT, the lack of the need for a
flea shampoo and its interminable 5-minute waiting
period makes the odd necessary bath easier. :)
