True, but a good many people always send their mail via ZMH 'routed',
which to me, is a primarily reason why FTSC1 is outdated.

My feeling is that if we are going to enforce P4/FTSC1, then we should
recognize that only "Primary Connection points" should have this
requirement because THEY are the ones that must be compatible with
everyone, the entry point of their area, so to speak. I believe
that "Primary Connection Points" should be required to have all
protocols available, FTSC1, DIET IFNA, WAZOO and EMSI. If they
don't have it, they should not be primary connection points.

This will always allow for two dissimilar systems to have a minimum
means of communication, i.e, a non-ftsc1 mailer trying to send mail
to a ftsc1 only mailer via the "primary interface points" in the
network.

I've voiced this opinion many times. If we are going to "give" new
developers a chance to help keep fidonet flowing with new
ideas and concepts, we need to take away the idiotic restrictions,
such as a FTSC1 technical requirement. It isn't necessary and it is
100% outdated for these days of multiple networks session exchanges.

Anyway, that is my opinion on the stupid FTSC1 requirement that
practically NO one uses anyway.

ML> ... crash generally means "go right now"...

Just a small side-point about this, then I will move on :-)

It depends on your mailer..

Crash could mean "GO" at the next event/costing opportunity, if defined.

Immediate means GO right now, ignore all costing rules, ignore all
constraints, etc.

When no costing is defined, CRASH=IMMED.

This allows you to defined a crash netmail events throughout
the day, for example, I have 3 cost events:

9am-5pm Prime Time, Send only netmail costing ZERO cent
5pm event, Send netmail costing less then X cents
11pm event, Send netmail No Cost limits.

So all crash netmail I create will automatically be controlled
by the mailer based on the cost tables I provided. Now the
cost table is just fictitious numbers. I just have it setup
so that certain local nets get zero cost, all others get 25 cents
and all international long distance get 1 dollar. That means my
0 cents netmail can go out any time, all others go out after prime
time, and all intl calls go out after 11pm.

If I make it IMMEDIATE, then my mailer ignores the costing constraints
and begins to poll immediately.

Also, another fallacy that limits some mailer is the presumption that
IMMED or CRASH means "DIRECT".

No, not with my mailer.

IMMED, CRASH, HOLD are "WHEN" attributes.
DIRECT or NON-DIRECT are "HOW" attributes.

This gives you the added flexibility to have IMMED or CRASH routed
mail.

So DIRECT or ROUTING is completely independent of the WHEN attributes,
IMMED, CRASH or HOLD.
