Paul Simpson of GDC in Sydney who at least has an Electrical Engineering
degree has been working on this too and admits that the Motorola Codex 3266
are his personal favourite.

True, but when such vendors refuse to work through interoperability issues
with other vendors the individual modem purchaser is sunk. One ex-Telebit
employee who is now working for a Telebit distributor indicated that they'd
give a refund rather than work through interoperability issues with another
manufacturer )-:.
