Further to the comment I just made in another post about memes, it is
slightly interesting to note that a religion has to be conservative because
it needs a core set of beliefs to pass on. If the core beliefs changed
radically from generation to generation, it wouldn't be a meme that could
spread.

I think this observation is a little more profound than the rather
inadequate way I have expressed it.
