subject: Who is God

-> I wonder how they work step 2, 3,5,6,7,11; for me that would be
-> as hard as drinking.
The atheists I know in the program use the people and wisdom of the
program itself as the source of power that will keep them sober.
In step 2, they come to believe that this is possible; in 3 they turn
themselves over to it by beginning to ask for help at meetings and
over the phone; in 5 the hearer symbolically serves as a representative
of the power of the program; in 6 and 7 they become ready to let go of
defects and ask sponsor, home group, etc. for help getting rid of them;
11 involves keeping close contact with AA meetings, people and
literature.
It isn't my personal approach, since I believe in a deity, but it
works just fine; the people I know who do it this way are all happy and
sober. The only real problem they have in AA is with overzealous
religious people who hammer at them about it or try to shame them for
doing it differently.
