What I find happening here is not so much the fact that his nails are growing
too long as they just get those sharp little points on the end. No extensive
"grinding" was required, just a really quick touch to the end of each nail,
not even a full second, to knock the point off.

It is sort of a toss up here. I couldn't hold him still long enough for the
clippers and not be terrified myself of clipping too much, I -have- to take
him somewhere so there are two pairs of hands. I've been taking him up to
the place where he was bred. He knows what is going to happen as soon as he
sees the lady who does it and goes into orbit. This scares him too, but it
was for a much shorter length of time and since we were already at home in
familiar surroundings, I was able to calm/soothe him down quicker also.

They're both usually allowed a "last ride" on the way to bed each night. The
rest of the time it's no higher than the chin. Randy was fairly well behaved
about being on the shoulder, but when Max came home I had to make some
changes in my own behavior. He definitely would get king of the roost
syndrome. So for both, it's the last treat of the day and really brief.
