CN> I am a mother of a 15 year old and am trying Homeschooling for the
CN> first year. It is very difficult. I would suggest to any one starting
CN> to start at an early age before bad patterns of study have set in. How
CN> do others deal with the change from being parent to being teacher? Is
CN> there something I can say besides "I am the teacher and if you were in
CN> public school you could not do that so you can't here."
I tried teaching my kids with some of the same structure as the school
system and they did not like it. I found a relaxed atmosphere with
a little fun to be most beneficial. Donna suggested I try this and it
works much better. I have only a few rules. They must be dressed and
eaten. Other than that we go with the flow. Some days my kids want
more structure and I can tell in about 10 minutes or so. Other days
I see they are into more visual and stimulating things. We have even
gone for a walk discussing and finding things in the environment and how
it effects us. I don't think my kids really think of me as a teacher
when I first started. They do now. When one of my kids was asked by
their old teacher if they had a teacher teaching them, my kids now say
yep. They don't say its my mom. So I guess I would suggest liten up.
Unless it is something that is a real problem. May I suggest if it is
to be a little more specific so we can help.
