The most important factor in burning aluminum is the amount of surface
area exposed. Most of the mixtures that use aluminum as a fuel use
powder (thermite, flash, a great variety of pyrotechnic mixtures).
The important thing to remember when you're playing with aluminum
pyrotechnics is the incredible amount of heat liberated. It burns hot
enough to melt or *boil* most other materials. Do it in an open area and
give it plenty of room.
