Please tell us non-law enforcement types what a
 "federal star"
A five pointed star in this case surrounded by a ring with agency name a la
 us marshals service.
WL> is. Surely it would be a surprise to Texas (the Lone Star state) and
WL> Minnesota (the North Star state) to learn that the star is now
WL> exclusively federal; many other states also include the star in their
 WL> emblems, logos, etc.
you answered yor own challenge below
WL> As far as law enforcement goes, the star has always been
WL> associated with peace officers at all levels, and particularly with
WL> sheriffs and deputy sheriffs. Is there some restriction now on them,
WL> or any other peace officers, using stars because they are not federal
 WL> officers?
No restriction, it's JUST a description
WL> Also, it would be interesting to know why CSX marked police
WL> vehicles are being changed to unmarked.
Only some are being changed to unmarked, It has been determined that
although only supervisors vehicles were previously unmarked, that there are
operational requirements for a portion of the fleet to be unmarked .
I would expect from my knowledge that officers working terminal areas to be
mostly marked due to their assignment area where a visible police presence
is
desired while vehiles assigned in less crime ridden areas will be the mre
 unmarked.
To make it clear, the only items to be removed will be the exterior markings
of SOME vehicles the Radios, lights and sirens remain , whether marked or
not.It is possible that the unmarked units will be equipped with magnetic
emblems for those cases where it is preferable.
MM>> Special Agents have federal+ authority with basically the same
MM>> arrest powers of any peacer officer in his jurisdiction in any
MM>> jurisdiction that the railrod has a business interest in.
 WL>
WL> If this statement is literally true, it appears to say a
WL> railroad special agent could arrest someone for spitting on the
WL> sidewalk under a local ordinance far from the railroad, as long as it
WL> was in a jurisdiction the railroad has a business interest in
It IS a very broad discretionary power
could and would are different words, and yes that's true and also know that
any
officer doing so just to do it
would be unemployed shortly. Our time is too valuable, that type of thing is
left to public paid officer .
the newcSX commission cards have all the info and allnew identifiers have
been submitted and pproved by DOT. We don't debate the
niceties of the law at scene. They are shown the identification as required,
if voluntary compliance is not forthcoming there is just one more charge
added
to the list. nd the person(s) are arrested anyway
I will get and postthe exact wording off the card and post the statute
number for those that care to pursue it further. I just report.
