Hi Don!
OG>> backwards? Buy your 2CV here in Germany or in France and with 1-2
OG>> thousand Dollars you should get a pretty good car to do only little
OG>> restoration on it.
DD> Because the one time I tried, the US Government said I had to post a
DD> bond equal to the value of the car in the US market, which was
DD> non-refundable if the car didn't meet US emission and safety
DD> standards. (And even if it did, they wanted to hold the bond for five
DD> years.)
That's bad! :-((( I never heard about such pressure from the governement
before. Our customs we have to pay on american cars (which is 30%) is
nothing against that!!! Maybe in other US-States it's easier? Or what
about any tricks? A US-Soldier who drove a 2CV in Europe and brings it
home? Or a german worker in the US who brings his car with him.
Theoretically it is legal to drive a car in the US, wich has a geman tag
if a german person is the owner. And what about fixing the value of the
car at a very low level? Does that work? E.g. get a bill from your vendor
that says you bought the car for 100,- bucks? ;-)
Bye,
Olav
