You will NEVER get 56K when you call into a BBS.
There has to be a digital connection on one end of the line.
The way it is setup, only the internet providers have the necessary digital
connections to do this.
And even then, the 56k connect is one way only: from the ISP to you.
If you send a file outbound, it will only go at a max speed of 33.6.

They have a section which explains how the 56K modems work and what its
limitations are.
I used to have a opy of that file, but lost it when I lost my hard drive last
month .
