When I hear this from someone, I attack the problem directly--
 
I get out an appointment book and ask the complainer to set up an time to 
teach in my classroom with me and a camera as an observer.  I am very 
persistent and insistent with anyone that is so short-sighted.  I have yet to 
have anyone take the challenge - all have backed down.  Since there are very 
few jobs I could not do other than cutting hair or artistic jobs, (although I 
can sing better than 99.9% of current pop singers).  In other words, I can 
probably do what they do for a living, maybe even better.
