JL>Howdy!
JL>I've got a stumper for y'all to solve; at least it is stumping me... :)
JL>I recently purchased a 35" RCA picture tube-type television. I would l
JL>to have the option of getting video sound through my audio system.
JL>I ran a set of interconnects from the line output jacks on the TV to th
JL>line inputs of my preamp. No matter which input on the preamp (video,
JL>CD, etc.) I tried, a high level hum came from the speakers. As soon as
JL>interconnect is removed from the preamp, the hum is gone. No matter wh
JL>input is selected on the preamp, the hum is present.
JL>Then I tried the same thing using the line output jacks on the VCR to t
JL>preamp. Same Hum. Then I tried running the interconnects from the var

JL>Switching the internal speakers on the TV from "off" to "on" makes no

JL>The TV and VCR work fine together and the sound from the TV itself is O
JL>The stereo system also works fine from any source; CD, Tape, turntable,
JL>except when I try to tie in the video. Any Suggestions? Thanks.
I bet you have cable TV! If so it is improperly grounded and is causing a
"ground
loop". Best fix is have the cable TV do it right which entails having the
cable
and you electrical service grounded to the same spot. This is how I got my
problem solved. There is a national code for this so they have to do it.
There are gadgets of various prices that you can hook to your stereo that may
or
may not fix this.
