I wonder if it's not so much Bush as the fact that he is the most current
President. Perhaps, with isolated exceptions (Bring Back Carter!) we are
looking at a trend with several underlying causes.

I suspect that one cause of the need for current politicians to blatantly
lie is the incessant glare of the media. Politicians have to quickly and
succintly sum up a complex situation and give a Simple Cure! I don't see
how a politician could NOT lie.
