OK, it was somewhat similar to a dolphin kidney. That's something.
MS> Most similarities were only external, yes, absolutely.
That's ... something ...

Squid?

I suggested that it might be disinformation, but disinformation of another
sort. I have proposed that it was an invention in any case, but perhaps
created for the CIA or the KGB to use against the other side.
The CIA would leak it so that the Russians would think the US has access
to unthinkably advanced alien technology -- thereby causing the Godless
Red Menace to hesitate before attacking.
The KGB would make it available to the European press -- leaking it -- to
play on the US fears of government secrets, to cause dissention in the
ranks of NATO (why didn't you tell us?) and to focus international
attention on the US government's internal activities (dissecting an
intelligent being?).
Oh, well.
A part of me thinks it was someone's very good attempt to make a name for
themselves as an independant special effects genius, but it's kinda trapped
them. Or maybe Santilli, who was *used* as the conduit for its release,
is pointing out that to admit it's a fake is to invite litigation from
him.
MS> Still, this bugs me.
Yeah, but it's fun.
Mike
... Power corrupts. Absolute power is kinda neat, though.
